Schlumpf goes EU
Shortly before Eurobike 2011, we signed an agreement with German engineering company Haberstock Mobility GmbH.
Initially, assembly and service of the mountain-drive, speed-drive and high-speed-drive bicycle gearing systems will move to the German town of Lauchringen, close to the Swiss border in Southern Germany.
Under phase two of this agreement, all production will take place in Germany.
In part, this is a response to dramatic changes in the exchange rate of the Swiss currency, which have made exports into the EU and elsewhere as much as 35% more expensive over only a few months, without generating extra profit for the exporter.
But this move also reflects the fact that manufacturing and assembly capacities at the Schlumpf works in Vilters cannot be expanded beyond present capacity, which is needed to accommodate the growing popularity of Schlumpf gearing systems, especially in new applications such as E-bikes.
Last but not least, schlumpf innovations is an R&D company, and owner and CEO Florian Schlumpf looks forward to having more time in the future to develop new projects.
Founder and owner of Haberstock Mobility GmbH, Rolf Haberstock, is widely experienced in everything from prototyping to mass production for the automotive industry. He is an expert in automation and workflow rationalization, and has implemented sophisticated production methods in his own company.
Beginning 1 November 2011, assembly and service will take place at Lauchringen/Germany.
schlumpf innovations will dedicate its capacities to increased output of unicycle hubs and has plans for a worldwide distribution of its self-activated waterpumps (hydraulic ram), which is a part of the family tradition at Schlumpf since 1886.
